When we stopped in New Jersey for a pit stop on our way to Norway in June, my Grandma gave me a book to read while on vacation, and I just finished it last night. More specifically, I took a pain pill (I had surgery on my foot last week) and read until the wee hours. It was glorious… I can’t recall the last time I stayed up late because I couldn’t put a book down.
I am a big fan of reading fiction, but have had several non-fiction books catch my eye lately. You can chock it up to a mid-life crisis, a need to better myself, or simply a good blog topic. Whatever the reason, I’m enjoying it and it has been at the root of several important conversations I’ve had with Mark lately. I have goals. Book goals to be exact. Ever since I could put words together on a page I have been ridiculously addicted to reading. It’s absolutely hands down one of my favorite activities. When I was little people used to ask my Mom if I had a hearing problem because when I was reading no sound could penetrate the bubble that I was in.
in 2016, I decided that my New Years Resolution would be to read 36 books, or three books per month. Now, I’m a really busy person, I have a full-time job, 2 kids that are involved in sports, and I’m really into fitness and workouts, so I had lofty goals! There were some rather difficult things I was going through at the time, so the reading goal was put in place to occupy my brain and help me get through all that STUFF. Reading was therapy. I ended up finishing the year at 32 books, only 4 short of my goal. I blame it on a terrible book I got into in June that was so awful I struggled with every word. That book just really sucked.
